Dr. Dervisis with the Focused Ultrsound

At the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. we believe that by working in partnership with other top research centers within Virginia Tech and across the world, we can achieve the fastest improvements in animal and human health. Our key collaborators include the following:

Our Collaborative Research Network has allowed the college to build unique partnerships with specialty veterinary practices in our region to improve and expand our clinical research. The network brings together specialty practices with advanced services such as 24-hour emergency care, on-site diagnostics, on-site cross-sectional imaging, and board-certified specialists in the college’s major research areas.

Five veterinary practices actively participate in the network: CVCA: Cardiac Care for Pets and Bush Veterinary Neurology Service, which have locations throughout Virginia and Maryland; Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, Maryland; The LifeCentre in Leesburg, Virginia; and Dogs and Cats Veterinary Referral and Emergency in Bowie, Maryland.

With our partners, we have undertaken a number of groundbreaking projects, including a first-of-its-kind database to serve as a reference library about dogs with mitral valve disease and a comprehensive study of radioiodine dosing to treat hyperthyroid cats.
