Pet Loss Support

"Our dear Roxie was our first dog as a family and she never stopped protecting us. She was wonderful with our three children, playing and cuddling with them all day long until it was time to follow my son, Connor up to bed at night. Our entire extended family loved her and we all miss her dearly. She was one of a kind and will never be forgotten." - Dr. Julie Winters of Laurel, MD

The unconditional love we receive from our pets creates a powerful emotional bond. For some, the death of a pet can be devastating.

To support owners in this difficult time, the college sponsors the efforts of the Pet Loss Support Hotline. The hotline is staffed by volunteers trained in supporting those who have suffered the loss of a beloved pet. Guidance for the program is provided by the Center for Animal Human Relationships and Cook Counseling Services at Virginia Tech.

The hotline number is 540-231-8038.

The hotline is usually staffed by trained volunteers on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 – 9 pm. Messages may be left outside these hours and will be returned as soon as a volunteer is available.
