Dr. Mom: Pregnancy in the Workplace

Our first Saturday seminar! Included were three segments, each focusing on a different topic. The first hour, presented by Dr. Ava Stanczak, Pediatric Chair VCOM, addressed health-related concerns specific for our profession and how pregnant women should protect themselves while expecting. The second hour focused on business concerns of maternity leave, insurance and legal liability in regards to the pregnancy of staff. It was presented by Dr. Peggy Rucker, past AAHA President and owner Southwest Virginia Veterinary Services. The third hour was an open panel discussion on balancing work and family life. The participants were: Dr. Stanczak, Dr. Rucker, Dr. Audry Curran from Vinton Animal Hospital, Dr. Kate Hussman owner of Louisa Veterinary Services and Dr. Bonnie Smith, Professor VMRCVM.
