Maryland Veterinary Medicine Association - Student Chapter

The student chapter of the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association operates out of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. We serve to strengthen the connection between the MVMA and all veterinary students at VA-MD Vet Med.

Statement of Purpose

As the representatives of the Maryland Veterinary Medicine Association at VA-MD Vet Med, our purpose is:

  • To broaden the studentsÂ’ educational experience by providing supplemental opportunities for learning about veterinary practice in Maryland with regards to laws, economics, and networking, and
  • To help students develop professional relationships with current Maryland practitioners in order to provide opportunities for externships and future job opportunities.

Each year, we host and attend a variety of fun and educational events.

  • Monthly Speakers from Maryland
Once a month we bring in Maryland veterinarians to come speak to our members for a lunch or dinner meeting. Topics range from small animals, food animals, exotic animals, equine, and public corporate.
  • Mentor Social & Networking Event
As part of the annual VA-MD Vet Med mentor day, our members get the opportunity to spend more time with their Maryland mentors at a private social and networking reception held here in Blacksburg.
  • Continuing Education Events in Maryland
Our members are given the opportunity to participate in almost all of the MVMA sponsored CE events in Maryland at little to no cost.
  • Annual MVMA Summer Conference in Ocean City
Members are invited to attend courtesy of the MVMA.
  • Annual Summer Barbeque
Every summer prior to the start of the school year, the MVMA hosts a summer barbeque to welcome the new VA-MD Vet Med Maryland students and to re-meet the old. The barbeque is hosted in Maryland.
  • Summer Externships
Members have access to various summer externships with current MVMA members.
