Ride Along Rules

Preface:

We are guests of the Production Management Medicine(PMM) department and clinicians and we should conduct ourselves as such. For the purpose of professionalism and continued support the following guidelines are required.

Attire:

Student must wear coveralls (any allowed except green clinicians coveralls), boots, and nametag. Neat professional appearance is required.

Behavior:

  1. Students must report in a timely manner to the location indicated by the clinician. FAPC suggests (strongly) the student arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time.
  2. Any form or level of alcohol or other substance is strictly prohibited.
  3. Respect to the clinician, client, and senior student is mandatory. It is their time to learn and our time to watch.

Participation:

  1. Student must be a member in good standing with FAPC.
  2. Attendance is mandatory! If there is a valid foreseeable reason for absence 48 hours notice to a designated club officer is required. Emergency situations will be evaluated on an individual basis. Tests are not an emergency.
  3. FAPC members are there to observe only. Level of participation is at the clinician’s discretion.

Confidentiality:

FAPC members should respect the clients, clinicians, and other students right to confidentiality, and safeguard all information associated with the operation. A careful balance must be maintained between colleagues and clients right to confidentiality and continued learning through sharing case details with other students. As a general rule, the student may share interesting case facts and procedural or disease information learned but NOT personal or specific operation information about the client or animal. FAPC suggests that student use their professional discretion in this matter but maintains that being more careful is a more respectable choice.

Grounds for Dismissal:

  1. Breaking of any of the previous listed rules
  2. Clinician request or complaint of ANY form, without argument.

Dismissal Definition:

First offense: Student will not be able to participate in the program for one semester (4 months). Summer semester not included.

Second Offense: Immediate dismissal from the program without option of return.
