Bryan Anderson

Bryan is from Woodbury, Connecticut, where he attended Western Connecticut State University and earned a BA in Chemistry. He is interested in small animal medicine, and although he likes most animals he meets, he is a dog person at heart. Outside of school, his major hobbies are reading, running, and skiing in the winter.

Tina Brehm

Tina is from Springfield, VA and she graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2012 with a BS in biology and psychology and a minor in chemistry. She has wanted to be a vet since first grade and grew up owning and loving shelter pets. She is primarily interested in working with shelters and spay/neuter clinics after vet school. In her free time she enjoys playing sports, spending time with her family and friends, and participating in community service events like Relay for Life!

Danielle Brown

Danielle is from the small, rural town of Woodbine, Maryland. For high school, she went to Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, MD, and for undergrad, she attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. She is interested in Mixed Animal medicine and is considering pursuing Zoo Animal medicine because she is very fascinated by this field, but she wants to acquire some exotic animal experience either at a zoo or wildlife conservation before she decides for sure. Outside of school, she likes to play soccer, read, hike, bike, and spend time with her family and friends.

Jake Bruton

Jake graduated with an Economics degree from Harvard in 2007, where he also played baseball. He later returned to Northern Virginia to complete his science pre-requisites at George Mason University, while working as a farm hand at Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon. In 2011, he and his wife moved to Blacksburg where he began working in the Large Animal Clinic at VA-MD Vet Med. He continues to work in the LAC as a Student Technician. He is interested in food animal medicine and reproduction.

Jamey Butala

Jamey is from Latrobe, Pennsylvania and graduated from Washington and Jefferson College with a B.A. in Biology and Psychology in 2012. Upon graduation of VA-MD Vet Med, Jamey hopes to work in a small animal practice as well as potentially working with wildlife. In her free time she enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends.

Matthew P. Coleman

Matthew hails from Niagara Falls, NY. He has his undergraduate degree in Biology and Veterinary Technology and is a licensed technician in NYS. He is all over the board when it comes to his veterinary medical interests. If he had to narrow it down he'd have to say his interests would be laboratory animal medicine, feline medicine, and a little bit of food animal medicine. His hobbies include reading, hanging out with friends, performance art (performing in theater productions) and singing!

Amanda Duggan

Amanda was born and raised in the great New Jersey suburbs, just outside New York City. She graduated from Quinnipiac University in May 2012 with a BS in Veterinary Technology. While in Connecticut, Amanda ran Division I Track & Field and worked as a veterinary technician. After veterinary school, she plans to practice Feline Medicine and spread her love of cats to all.

George Elane

George is a native of Laurel, MD, but earned his B. S. in Biomedical Science from Auburn University in 2012. During his summers as an undergraduate, he participated in studies of reducing nitrogenous waste in sheep rumen at the University of Maryland, College Park, which greatly contributed to his aspiration of becoming a Large Animal Surgeon. When not engrossed in his veterinary studies at VA-MD Vet Med, he enjoys hiking, travel, playing piano, reading, spending time with friends and family, and watching Doctor Who.

Katie Entwistle

Katie grew up in New Jersey and went to Rutgers University for her undergraduate studies. She graduated with a B.S. in Animal Sciences, with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Studies, and double-minored in Equine Science and Endocrine Physiology & the Health Sciences. She absolutely loves dogs and is currently thinking about pursuing a career in small animal medicine. Her hobbies include hiking, photography, snowboarding, and just about anything that gives her an excuse to be outside!

Jillian Gilbeau

As a navy brat, Jillian is from all over, but she grew up mostly in California (San Diego). She went to undergrad at the University of Texas in Austin and received her BA in Biology. She would like to track mixed small animal, equine. She has 2 dogs that she is a bit obsessed with, and loves outdoorsy things like camping, hiking, and sports. She has played soccer since she was 4 years old and just recently hung up her cleats to come to vet school.

Jessie Gilbert

Jessie is from the small town of Prince George, VA, about 40 minutes south of Richmond. She graduated from Virginia Tech in December of 2011 with a B.S. in Animal & Poultry Science. She has a strong interest in small animal surgery and has enjoyed working long summers in the surgical suites of two Richmond-area hospitals. She also has experience in laboratory research, taking part in studies determining the genetic signaling of diabetes in swine. She loves to sing, fish, hike, cook and go on spontaneous weekend getaways with her boyfriend and her dog Daisy.

Brad Good

Brad is originally from the rural outskirts of Staunton, VA. He graduated from James Madison University with a B.S. in Biology. He's an Eagle Scout ('06) and enjoys all types of outdoor sports and activities, particularly skiing, hiking, and kayaking. In addition, he likes to travel and enjoys aviation. His primary interests in veterinary medicine are small animal medicine and surgery.

Rachael Gross

Rachael is a native to Lancaster County PA with a passion for Food Animal Medicine as she works toward her DVM degree in the class of 2016. She graduated in May 2010 with her B.S. majoring in Animal Science, Biology, and Pre-Vet with a Chemistry Minor from the University of Findlay. Recently a graduate of Ohio State University in March 2011 with a Master of Public Health in the Veterinary Public Health specialization, she worked in the areas of food safety and meat production with the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Division of Meat Inspection. In her free time she likes to horseback ride, play volleyball, and snowboard. She and her Great Dane, Ace, are enjoying their new home of Blacksburg.

Elizabeth Hepner

Elizabeth (who goes by Liddy) is from Hydes, MD. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Biology and a minor in Animal and Poultry Sciences in 2012. She will be following the mixed track, food and small animal, and hopes to go in to private practice. Outside of school, she enjoys hiking, running, baking, cooking, spending time with her friends and family and watching Hokie football.

Stacy Higgins

Born in Ohio, Stacy has lived in Northern Virginia since 1991. She spent her undergraduate time at Georgetown University, earning a BSLA in French with a Government minor in 1998. While trying to decide what to do with her life, she spent several years in the financial sector of corporate America. When she decided it was time for a change, she chose to realize her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. As of 2012, she is planning on Mixed tracking, focusing on Food Animal and Small Animal medicine. She now lives in Blacksburg with her husband, Nate, Chihuahua/dachshund mix, Marcus and domestic short hair, Ninja. During her spare time, she enjoys video games, knitting, jewelry making, spending time with friends and traveling whenever possible.

Zack Hogge

Zack grew up in a small town in southeastern Virginia, and transferred to the southwestern part of the state for undergrad at Virginia Tech. He graduated 2009 with a B.S. Biology, and pursued veterinary medicine upon graduation. He has worked in multiple clinics spanning the field of veterinary medicine, and fell in love with small animal surgery. Outside of vet school he tries to spend as much time in the outdoors as possible. He enjoys waterfowl hunting with his lab Drake and spending time on the water fishing/relaxing.

Guru Amit Khalsa

Bibi Khalsa grew up in Upstate NY on a small farm. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Animal Science in December of 2011. Her interests in Veterinary medicine range from small animal medicine to Zoo and marine mammals. She hopes to be able to do something unique with her future Veterinary medicine degree that allows her to travel and gain many unique experiences. She enjoys keeping active by either playing team sports or going on outdoor adventures (hiking, mountain biking, skiing, etc...)!

Katherine Kriebel

Katherine was born and raised in Millersville, MD, located between Baltimore and Annapolis. She attended the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and graduated in 2012 with a B.S. in Biology. After graduation from VA-MD Vet Med, she hopes to go into the small animal private practice industry. Outside of school, she enjoys anything outdoors including hiking, sports, football, boating and traveling.

Sarah Krones

Sarah is from Frederick Co, MD, earned a BS in environmental science with a focus in wildlife conservation from the University of MD in 2005, and is interested in veterinary medicine for rural/marginalized populations around the world. Her hobbies include biking, hiking, reading, and growing vegetables.

Kathryn Lacy

Kathryn is from Richmond, VA and graduated from Virginia Tech in 2012 with a B.S. in Animal and Poultry Sciences. Her main interest has always been horses, and she hopes to find herself working in equine field practice or surgery. In her spare time, she loves to ride horses, read and spend time with friends. Go Hokies!

Amanda Leber

Amanda is from a small town near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated from University of Delaware in 2011 with a B.S. in Animal Science. Amanda plans to pursue a career in small animal medicine. In her free time, she enjoys reading, going to concerts, and spending time outdoors.

Alicia Long

Alicia grew up in Freeport, Maine and received her BS in Biology from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. She is planning to pursue a career in equine medicine with a particular interest in combining holistic veterinary techniques with traditional medicine. She is a PATH Intl Registered Instructor (of therapeutic riding) and loves to teach beginner lessons to riders of all ages and abilities. She is hoping to return to Northern Virginia to practice.

Monica Madera

Monica Madera is from Arlington, VA. She went to Virginia Tech as an undergrad and graduated with a B.S. in Biology. Once she graduates from VA-MD Vet Med she plans to pursue zoological medicine. She likes to ride her bike in her free time and she loves to play volleyball.

Karah Markins

Karah was born in Huntington, WV. She has a BFA in theatre that she earned at Marshall University. (And yes, she was there while they filmed We Are Marshall.) After graduation she began working for a local vet. After three years of working with animals she went back to school to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She is interested in small animal medicine and is pursuing the possibility of mixed animal medicine. Her hobbies include watching college basketball, hiking, camping, and shopping. As a veterinarian she hopes to bring better education about and care of animals to her hometown region.

Karen Meidenbauer

Kari Meidenbauer, originally from Annapolis, Maryland, is a DVM candidate in VA-MD Vet Med's Class of 2016 and is concurrently enrolled in the Master's in Public Health program with interests in pursuing a career in public safety and regulatory medicine. Kari graduated from Virginia Tech in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences where she participated in multiple research projects including an ovarian cancer study as well as a study on the gut micro flora in lean versus obese equines. Currently, Kari is serving as the Vice President of the MVMA Student Chapter, the President-elect of the Public-Corporate Veterinary Practitioners Club and is a part of multiple other nationwide Veterinary organizations. In her free time she likes to spend time with her friends and family, and her two year old Cairn terrier, Lily.

Larisa Niehaus

Larisa is a native of West Virginia and a graduate of West Virginia University with a B.S. in Biology as well as a B.S. in Journalism. After an internship at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, she decided to pursue veterinary medicine. Her interests include public health and exotics/zoo medicine. A few of her hobbies include hiking, geocaching, sewing, travel, and spending time with friends.

Kate O'Laughlin

Kate grew up in Harford County, Maryland. She started riding horses at a young age. She knew at a very young age she wanted to be an equine veterinarian. To prepare for college she obtained a job at a large thoroughbred breeding farm at the age of 13, falling in love with the racing industry. She also competed at the National level in various FFA competitions. She went to Virginia Tech for undergrad and got a dual degree in Animal and Poultry Science and Dairy Science. She was a member of the Virginia Tech horse judging team and was on the only team for Virginia Tech to ever win a national competition. She wants to work within equine sports therapy medicine, specializing in lameness and alternative medicine treatments for injuries. Other then school, she enjoys trail riding with her fiancé and their boxers, hiking, and cooking.

Ashley Pacheco

Ashley is from Rehoboth, MA. She studied Biology at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and graduated with her Bachelor's of Science degree in May 2012. Her area of interest is in Zoo Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys playing soccer and singing.

Holly Peltz

Born and raised in New York, Holly went to Temple University for her undergraduate studies, pursuing a degree in Therapeutic Recreation. After college she spent some time working in the field and while she loved it, she decided to give in to her true passion and pursue veterinary medicine. She completed her prerequisite coursework back at Temple and took jobs working for an animal shelter and a cats-only hospital in Philadelphia. She loved both experiences and hopes to one day work in shelter medicine and small animal private practice. In her free time she loves rooting for the NY Giants with her family, horseback riding, running, snowboarding and hanging out with her three cats, Hunter, Ditto and Stella.

Heather Reeves

Heather comes from a small town called Broadway, Virginia. She grew up on a poultry farm and has an Animal and Poultry Sciences degree from VT. She's interested in going into either small animal medicine or swine medicine. Her hobbies include running and playing the piano.

Bridgette Ringley

Bridgette is from Hagerstown, Maryland. She graduated from Hood College in Frederick, MD with a BA in biochemistry. She is interested in small animal, public corporate or research veterinary medicine. She enjoys playing sports, horseback riding, running and cooking.

Sasha Romoleroux

Sasha hails from the one and only New Jersey! Her hometown is North Bergen, NJ. Living across the river from NYC, she's always been a city kid at heart. She received her B.A. in biology from Caldwell College. She's always had a soft spot for animals, as many vet students, but it was working in an animal hospital in Montclair, NJ that made her want to pursue veterinary medicine. Her interests in vet med are small animal and doing dog population research in South America. Her hobbies include reading, writing, volleyball, painting, cooking, watching movies, hiking, and spending time with her feline children.

Kathy Samley

Kathy is from Charlottesville, VA and graduated in 2012 from Boston College with a B.S. in Biology. She is interested in equine and small animal medicine and hopes to work in private practice. She loves running, horseback riding, and playing with her two dogs and cat.

Betsy Schroeder

Betsy graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2004 with a BS in biological sciences, and from the University of Minnesota in 2006 with a MPH. After that, she spent three years working at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine. Since 2009, she's been at VA-MD Vet Med as a dual DVM/PhD student, where her research is in detecting and eliminating latent Salmonella infections. When not working or studying, she enjoys reading, watching bad movies, trivia, running, and playing and watching sports.

Hannah Shankel

Born and raised in Bristol, VA, Hannah graduated from King College in Tennessee in 2012 with a B.S. in Cell & Molecular Biology. She is a small animal tracker with an interest in Human-Animal bond/service dogs. In her spare time she plays sports and exercises, and loves running with her dog :) She also has hobbies including reading, photography, and anything outside

Patricia Shanteau

Trisha is most recently from Charleston, SC. She graduated from the College of Charleston with an A.B. in Biology in 2011. Her interests in veterinary medicine, as well as in life, are varied and include public education, increasing access to veterinary care in rural areas and animal welfare. She plans on tracking mixed animal and has no idea what she will end up doing after graduation, which suits her just fine. Her hobbies include cooking, reading and collecting vinyl records.

Jacqueline Simonian

Jackie is from Farmingdale, NY and graduated with a BS in Biology from Long Island University- Brooklyn. She has spent her school breaks for the past three years at a small animal clinic, developing the passion and skills needed to excel in the small animal field. Her hobbies include playing lacrosse and soccer, going out with friends, and snuggling up with her two pups Layla and Hank.

Kelly Smith

Kelly grew up north of Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated in 2008 from the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Environmental Systems Engineering. After working as an engineer and moving to Colorado and then to Virginia with her husband, she found her true calling in large animal veterinary medicine. Extracurricular activities include running with her dogs, backpacking, skiing and horseback riding.

Taylor Stephens

Taylor grew up in the hamlet of Rectortown in Fauquier County, VA. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 2011 with a BS in biology, and spent a year at the VT Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center as a graduate student. He grew up around horses, doing Pony Club, eventing, and foxhunting. Taylor plans to track mixed animal. Currently, he lives in Blacksburg with his fiancé, Amy.

Robyn Terrel

Robyn grew up in Honesdale, PA, which is a very rural area. Her family has a Jersey Dairy Farm, where she spends most of her time when at home. She has had numerous animals growing up including pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys, beef and dairy cattle, along with the everyday dogs and cats. She attended Penn State and obtained a BS in Animal Science. Due to her background she is planning on becoming a Mixed Animal Veterinarian, and hopefully when finished, returning back to her home area to practice. She also enjoys any outdoor type of activities, fishing, playing tennis, and many other things.

Lucas Trout

Luke graduated cum laude from St. Mary's College of Maryland in 2008 with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Biology and a minor in Mathematics. At SMCM he was a member of the varsity baseball team for three years, after red-shirting his freshman year. He is originally from the small town of Baldwin, MD, where he grew up working on the Ehrhardt Dairy Farm. He graduated from Calvert Hall College High School, Towson MD, receiving the Brad Meager Memorial Award at Commencement. Luke has experience raising cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry. He looks to serve his country and profession with the U.S. Army Vet Corps.

Raelyn Walczak

Raelyn is a Buffalo, NY native, but has spent much of her life in the Midwest. She attended Augustana College, a small liberal arts school in Sioux Falls, SD where she played soccer and graduated with a B.A. in Biology. Raelyn's interests are mainly in zoological medicine. Outside of school she enjoys running, playing soccer, and visiting her family.

Jessica Walters

Jessica grew up on a small farm in Powhatan, Virginia where they raised Black Angus cattle, produced crops, and had horses. She graduated from Virginia Tech in May 2009 with a B.S. in Animal and Poultry sciences, and started the Dual DVM/PhD program at VA-MD Vet Med in Summer of 2009. Her research specializes in poultry infectious diseases, particularly dealing with the respiratory tract. In veterinary medicine, she plans to pursue work as a board certified poultry veterinarian in the industry/government sector. Her hobbies include hiking, riding horses, fishing, mountain biking, and spending time with her fiancé.

Sara Waltz

Sara grew up outside of Philadelphia but she thinks of herself as a North Carolinian at heart. That being said, she is from Raleigh, NC. She graduated in 2008 with a BS in biology from the University of North Carolina in Wilmington, the home of the beautiful waves and beach music! She also graduated from North Carolina State University in 2012 with an MS in Physiology. She worked as a vet tech for about 7 years. She has had a variety of awesome experiences including an internship at the Carolina Tiger Rescue. Her true passion, however, lies mostly in small animal emergency medicine which is a field she has been working in for the last 3.5 years. She is also very interested in food animal medicine with a bovine focus. Outside of vet med, she loves hiking, camping, horseback riding, painting, rollerblading, and skiing. Her favorite pastime is probably hanging out on the porch watching the sun go down at her parents' farm. You have to savor it when you can, right?!

Jaclyn Warner

Jaclyn is from Bridgeport, WV and graduated from West Virginia University in 2011 with a B.S. in Animal and Nutritional Science with a minor in Equestrian Science. She plans to track mixed, small animal and equine, and is planning on returning to her home state of West Virginia to practice. Her hobbies include horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, and obsessing over her boxer, Rosie.

Virginia Yarrington

Virginia is from Winchester, VA. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 2012, with a major in Animal and Poultry Science and a minor in Leadership and Social Change. She would like to go into food animal medicine, focusing mostly with dairy and beef cattle. In her free time she likes quilting, baking, and going hiking with her husband.
