Kyle Alberti

Kyle Alberti

Kyle was born in Norfolk, VA and has lived his entire life in Chesapeake, VA. He has been interested in veterinary medicine since a young age and has been pursing his dream. He graduated from Great Bridge High School in 2004. He obtained a BS in Biochemistry, minor in Chemistry, and a BS in Animal and Poultry Sciences from Virginia Tech in 2008. His undergraduate research project was published in the the International Journal of Applied Research in Veterinary Medicine in 2009. Kyle then obtained a MS in Animal and Poultry Sciences with a focus on reproductive physiology from Virginia Tech writing his thesis and publishing his masters work in the Journal of Animal Science in 2011. His hobbies include playing basketball, tennis, traveling, and watching movies.

AJ Ashkan

AJ Ashkan

AJ was originally born in Iran. He lived in Turkey for about a year and moved to Northern VA in June of 2003. He became a proud citizen of the U.S. in February of 2009. He graduated from Potomac Falls H.S. and NOVA community college. He continued to work on his undergrad degree at Virginia Tech from January of 2009 till June of 2010. He likes playing poker and some pool. He also loves jumping in the background of your photos so be careful around him.

Patti Brown

Patti Brown

Patti grew up in southern California and graduated with her B.S in Animal Science from UC Davis in 2005 and her A.S in Veterinary Technology in 2007. She worked at VMRCVM as a surgery ward technician from 2008 until beginning vet school in the fall of 2010. She has had an interest in veterinary medicine since a very young age and has a large variety of clinical experiences.

Marian Cavanaugh-Rouse

Marian Cavanaugh-Rouse

Marian grew up in Damascus MD, and went to undergraduate school at Salisbury University where she got her B.S. in organismal biology and minored in chemistry. She enjoys spending time by the river with her Newfoundland puppy Kaya and with her two cats Nym and Adella.

Dan Claffey

Dan Claffey

Dan, originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College in North Carolina where he graduated with a double major in Biology and English. After graduation he worked at his parent's veterinary hospital back home in Edmonton until making the move to VMRCVM.

Emma Corrigan

Emma Corrigan

Born and raised in Cochranton, PA, Emma graduated from Kent State University in 2010 with her B.S. in Conservation.

Sarah Donovan

Sarah Donovan

Sarah is from Waynesboro, VA and attended Virginia Tech, where she completed her undergraduate degree in three years with a major in Animal and Poultry Science and a minor in Psychology. She developed a great interest in food animal medicine in her undergraduate career and aspires to enter this field upon graduation from vet school. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys playing with her dog Bella, who she rescued from Floyd Animal Shelter.

Hunter Dorman

Hunter Dorman

Hunter went to Virginia Tech and got her B.S. in Animal and Poultry Sciences in 2010. She is from Fairfax, Virginia and has worked for a small animal veterinarian since she was 16. After she graduates from VMRCVM, she wants to either go into private practice or persue an internship and residency in small animal cardiology. Hunter has a dog at school with her, a Great Dane named Roman and two dogs at home, a pug, Newman and a Lab Hudson that keep her plenty busy and entertained!

Katy Dorsey

Katy Dorsey

Katy, originally from Jacksonville, NC, graduated with her B.S. in Biology in 2006 from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and her M.S. in Animal Science in 2009 from the University of Maryland. During her time in graduate school, she developed a passion for laboratory animal medicine while carrying out gamete cryobiology research on Atlantic sturgeon, and thus decided to go to veterinary school.

Rachael Dunn

Rachael Dunn

Rachael, from Northern Virginia, loves to be outdoors and playing with her beagle Maddie. She is a huge Hokie football fan, having conducted her undergraduate career here at Tech as well.

Heidi Eberly

Heidi Eberly

Heidi is from Rockingham County Virginia (Harrisonburg). She grew up on a farm raising beef cattle, backgrounding beef steers, market lambs, and turkeys. Heidi received her B.S. in Animal and Poultry Science from Virginia Tech and a minor in Agribusiness Management. When she is not studying, she enjoys running or working out at the gym, as well as drinking coffee and lots of Hokie Football! After tracking food or mixed animal medicine, Heidi hopes to become a private practice veterinarian in the Midwestern/Western United States.

Erica Geary

Erica Geary

Erica grew up in Damascus, MD and graduated from Grove City College in 2010 with a B.S. in Molecular Biology. During high school and college, she worked in two small animal private practices, as well as at church as a youth group intern and summer camp counselor. She aspires to use her gifts in veterinary medicine primarily as a way to serve people, whether by treating their companion animals in small animal practice, or by serving overseas in veterinary missions. When she is not studying, Erica enjoys participating in church activities, painting with watercolors, and spending time outside.

Julia Gibson

Julia Gibson

Julia, from Warrenton, Virginia, did two years of undergraduate work at Virginia Tech before being accepted into VMRCVM. She is a huge fan of Hokie football and basketball, loves being around people, and loves the outdoors.

Tia Fitzgibbon

Tia Fitzgibbon

Tia grew up in Winchester, VA. She completed her undergraduate work at Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA, in 2007, graduating with a B.S. in Biology and Equine Studies and a minor in Chemistry. She spent 3 years working as a veterinary technician before coming to VMRCVM. Her goals are to focus on small exotics and pocket pet medicine. Her hobbies include horseback riding, ballroom dancing, sewing, and playing with her dog and ferrets.

Ashley Gray

Ashley Gray

Ashley, raised in Charlottesville, VA went to Virginia Tech for her undergraduate education. She graduated in 2009 with a B.S. in Science in Food Science and Technology and Equine Production. Her interests lie within the mixed animal track, specifically small animal and equine medicine. Her passion is nutrition, and she hopes to pursue further education in this field. She is currently the class secretary and hopes to get involved further. Her favorite past times include hokie football, going to concerts, hiking, cooking, and shopping.

Lindsey Green

Lindsey Green

Lindsey is from the Eastern Shore of Maryland and received her B.S. in Biochemistry with minors in Animal Science and Chemistry from Virginia Tech in 2009. She is currently a student of the VMRCVM class of 2014 and plans to be a small animal and exotic veterinarian. Lindsey also likes working with zoo animals and spent three months working at a zoo in Australia. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, has a cat named Tilly, she loves traveling abroad, and enjoys working on her 1968 Pontiac GTO convertible with her dad!

Kathy Hatziginnakis

Kathy Hatziginnakis

Kathy is a registered vet tech from Baltimore, Maryland. She has worked several years in small animal general practice and is looking forward to returning to the profession as a veterinarian. Kathy is a member of the Veterinary Business Management Association and has an interest in practice management. She shares her home with her husband Tony and their two dogs, Quimby and Veruca. They enjoy watching sci-fi TV shows, checking out the local farmer's markets, and skiing in the winter time.

Rory grew up in McLean, Virginia, graduating in 2004. He attended Brigham Young University, where he met his wife, graduating in 2010 with a degree in Biology.

Linda Huang

Linda Huang

Linda, a recent graduate of the University of Maryland, has diverse interests in veterinary medicine and scientific research. She is a Public/Corporate track student and serves on the SCAVMA Executive Council and is active in the Public Veterinary Practice and Pathology Clubs. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, cooking, playing German-style board games, and watching Doctor Who.

Mary Ashley Laine

Mary Ashley Laine

Mary Ashley graduated from the University of Virginia in 2008. She has a strong interest in conservation and is working towards a career in wildlife medicine.

Katy Lamb

Katy Lamb

Katy is a native of Chesapeake, Virginia and attended Virginia Tech for her undergraduate work. She is interested in food animal medicine, particularly rural practice.

Lauren Malick

Lauren Malick

Lauren, a native of Granite, MD, graduated with her B.S. in Biology in 2010. In 2004 she began working in veterinary practices as a veterinary assistant and has not looked back since. She dabbled in organic chemistry research for two years, but still decided veterinary school was the place to go.

Cassie Martin

Cassie Martin

Cassie grew up in Olney, Maryland and began training at Hill's Gymnastics at the age of five. Her gymnastics career led her to begin her undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama in the fall of 2005, where she competed on the Alabama Gymnastics team for her first three years of college. In early 2007 she joined New College, a program that encourages interdisciplinarity and allows students to create their own "depth study." She focused on a balance between biology and chemistry, including neurological research in microscopic nematodes (C. elegans) as well as some psychology, nutrition, and French. Cassie graduated magna cum laude with her B.S. in Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences in May 2009.

Having come upon the realization that she wanted to be a veterinarian late in her college career, Cassie spent a year working in the office of UA's School of Library and Information Studies before coming to VMRCVM. She's not quite sure what she would like to focus on yet - ideally she would like to work in a Zoo but would also be very happy working with small animals and volunteering at a shelter. In her free time you can find her spending time with her family, friends, and two cats, travelling, or taking flying trapeze lessons at TSNY in Washington, D.C.

Brian Neumann

Brian Neumann

Brian, born in Bethesda, MD, completed 3-years of undergraduate coursework here at Virginia Tech before being accepted into the VMRCVM. He was a chemistry major and animal science minor, and an employee at TRACSS and the parasitology lab at the vet school. He is a public/corporate tracker and hopes to work with the CDC after graduation.

Chad Pelensky

Chad Pelensky

Chad, a native of Erie, PA, graduated with a B.S in Animal Bioscience in 2009 from the Pennsylvania State University. His goal is to pursue a career in food animal medicine with a focus on dairy cattle. Chad is a member of the Food Animal Practitioner Club and Alpha Psi Fraternity here at the VMRCVM.

Lisa Perez

Lisa Perez

Lisa is from Olney, Maryland. She graduated from The University of Maryland in 2009 with a B.S. in Animal and Avian Science. For nine years, she worked as a veterinary technician for six different veterinary practices in her area. Upon graduation, she wants to enter into a mixed animal practice that treats small animals and exotics. Lisa is currently the Junior Editor for the Yearbook Committee at the VMRCVM.

Ashley Perry

Ashley Perry

Ashley has always lived in Virginia. Up until college, she lived in Chesapeake, VA where she still travels during breaks from school to enjoy the water and her family. After graduating from high school, she ventured to Virginia Tech and graduated in 2010 with a B.S. in Animal and Poultry Sciences. Virginia Tech only confirmed her life long dream of becoming a veterinarian, and so now she is proudly a member of the VMRCVM Class of 2014. Ashley has been riding horses since she was six years old and enjoyed competing for the Equestrian Team at Virginia Tech. Now, her passion for horses is becoming a part of her career as she aspires to become a veterinarian. Her passion for animals is not limited to horses and she can often be found spending time with her four St. Bernards, especially Bauer, who always joins her in Blacksburg during the school year.

Katie Pike

Katie was born and raised on a dairy farm in Maine. She graduated from Virginia Tech in May of 2010 with her B.S. in Dairy Science. Katie's upbringing and experiences thus far have lead her to have a love for veterinary medicine, and most specifically, food animal medicine. Katie also enjoys the outdoors, sports, and living the life of a vet student.

Katherine is from Howard County Maryland. Completed her BS in Animal Science at University of Maryland in 2010. Grew up raising and showing sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, dogs, and cats for 13 years through 4-H. Is tracking Small and Food animals at VMRCVM.

Erin Rockwell

Erin Rockwell

Erin grew up in rural central Virginia where she worked with beef cattle and poultry on her family's farm. She graduated in 2010 with a B.S. in Animal and Poultry Sciences from Virginia Tech. She aims to work in the food animal industry after graduating from VMRCVM. In her spare time, Erin enjoys hiking and playing outside, trail riding, and cooking new recipes.

Vanessa Richards

Vanessa Richards

Vanessa is from Morgantown, West Virginia, where she graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Animal and Nutritional Sciences in 2010. She grew up on a small Angus farm and has several dogs at home. She's going to track small animal medicine, with specific interest in international and animal shelter medicine.

Hannah Smith

Hannah Smith

Hannah Smith grew up on a dairy farm in Clear Spring, Maryland. She started showing and judging dairy cattle at the age of five. Hannah graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Dairy Science in May 2010. Hannah hopes to become a food animal veterinarian focusing on dairy cattle. When not in school, Hannah enjoys showing her Holstein cows, working on the farm, and being around family and friends.

Molly Snow

Molly Snow

Molly is from Southern Maryland. She completed two years of undergraduate work in Animal and Poultry Sciences at Virginia Tech before being accepted into the VMRCVM. She started riding horses at age eight, and was an active 4-H member with horse and dog projects. Her family also raises chickens and ducks on their small farm. Molly is interested in food animal medicine, especially swine and broilers, and hopes to work for the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service after graduation.

Ashley is from Lexington, Virginia. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 2009 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and minors in Animal Science and Chemistry. She is interested in both food animal and small animal medicine.

Kelsey, a native of Richmond, VA, graduated with her B.S. in Biology in 2010 from the University of Virginia. She is tracking small animal medicine.

Ryan M. Walczak

Ryan Walczak

Ryan, a native of Buffalo, NY, graduated with his B.S. in Chemistry in 2001 from the University at Buffalo and his Ph.D. in Organic and Polymer Chemistry in 2006 from the University of Florida. After spending several years in the chemical industry and volunteering in the animal rescue community, he decided to change careers and return to veterinary school. Ryan aspires to specialize in small animal internal medicine or surgery and to volunteer his services back to the animal rescue community.

Andy Weikhert

Andy Weikhert

Andy is from a small town in central Pennsylvania called Huntingdon. He graduated from the Pennslyvania State University (GO Nittany Lions!!!), University Park campus with a B.S. in Animal Sciences, Science Option in the spring of 2010. He grew up on a small farm raising horses, meat & dairy goats, market & breeding sheep, and raising hogs and steers for FFA projects. His interests in all of these animals led him to veterinary medicine. He is enrolled at VMRCVM's Class of 2014 with an interest in food animal medicine. He hopes to return to Pennsylvania and work in a rural practice.

Jacqueline Z

Jacqueline Z

Jacquelyn hails from a small, rural town, in Virginia, known as Mine Run. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 2006 with a Bachelor's in Biology and in 2010 from Northern Virginia Community College with an Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology. Jacquelyn is a Licensed Veterinary Technician, having received her license in 2010 after successfully completing her national board exam. After working for 4 years in small animal medicine, Jacquelyn has decided upon a career in small animal emergency medicine. In addition to her interests in Veterinary medicine, Jacquelyn has been an active member of her hometown's volunteer fire department for the last 10 years and enjoys photography.
