-
Microscope
You can rent a microscope for a one-time, non-refundable fee of $130. This fee
will cover your microscope rental for 1st and 2nd years. You will be given an
opportunity to pay this fee after your arrival.
Please note: Any microscope you already have or can borrow or purchase from
another source must meet the College’s specifications and must be approved by
the Microscope Committee. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Tom Caceci,
Chairman of the Microscope Committee at doctorc@vt.edu.
- Course Notes and Lab Manuals
The College does not pay for the copying costs of course notes or laboratory
manuals. You will be required to purchase these materials for the academic
year. If you choose not to purchase the notes, you will be responsible for
obtaining these materials on your own or utilizing other textbook resources to
prepare for the course.
To help offset this cost to you, the College is committed to reducing the
number of required textbooks you must purchase. The estimated cost for these
notes and manuals for an academic year is $200 - $250 per student or about $100
- $125/semester. Reducing the number of required textbooks by 1 or 2 per
semester will more than offset this cost.
The exact costs are unknown until the professors submit their course notes and
manuals for copying, so that information won’t be available to give to you
until orientation. For any notes you order/purchase, payment will be required
during the orientation period. Checks are the only method of payment. (i.e., we
do not accept credit cards.)
