Welcome to the Luo Laboratory Homepage
Our laboratory has two main interests of research.
- The first research interest is to better understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of inflammation. Our particular focus is on plasmacytoid dendritic cells, the primary cell type that produces a group of inflammatory molecules called interferons. Our goal is to elucidate the mechanisms of interferon production and the roles of such inflammatory response in autoimmune diseases, such as lupus.
- The second research interest is the generation of antibody response. B cells as natural producers of antibodies have multiple checkpoints during their development to control antibody generation. Any errors in these checkpoints could lead to defective response against infections, overreaction to self-molecules, or various types of leukemias and lymphomas. Our goal is to better understand these developmental checkpoints.
