The Center for Comparative Oncology (CeCO)

Dr. PleasantChartered in 2002, CeCO is an academic center for basic and clinical research on cancer. The Center is based at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM) in Blacksburg, Virginia and unites a variety of cancer research programs on the Virginia Tech campus. The mission of CeCO is to study the development of cancer in animals and in people, to develop new ways to diagnose cancer and to find new treatments to control and cure it.

Fifth Annual Dog Walk Against Cancer - October 11, 2008

Dog Walk GroupThe Annual Dog Walk Against Cancer was held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Many thanks to all of the volunteers and participants who made this Dog Walk a huge success. Over $3,000 in donations was raised by over 50 participants. A special note of thanks goes to Pawsitive Hokeez and the Animal Welfare Club for helping to organize and run the event.

Equine Melanoma Research

Many common types of tumors that occur in domesticated animals and in people (lymphoma and mammary tumors, for example) are not seen frequently in horses. Several types of skin tumors (melanomas and squamous cell carcinomas), however, are very common in both horses and people.
