Career Transition Workshop - November 1-2, 2012

A two-day workshop for graduate veterinarians in all professional career stages wishing to explore career alternatives.

This workshop will encompass two aspects of career transition:

  • The What: what types of opportunities are available in the corporate and public sectors for veterinarians. Speakers from a variety of agencies will discuss the types of careers available:
    • USDA
    • FDA
    • DoD
    • Department of Homeland Security
    • USAID-Department of State
    • state employed veterinarians
    • academia
    • not-for-profit
    • AVMA
    • corporate entities

The speakers selected have made career transitions themselves. A question and answer session will be held with each speaker.

  • The How: steps required to find and obtain a new career including:
    • career assessment
    • job search
    • application process
    • resume building
    • networking
    • interviewing
    • negotiations
    • education and training steps
    • money issues
    • other aspects of career transition

This is a workshop on opportunities and processes for veterinarians interested in career transition, not a job fair where prospective employers will be offering positions.
