I completed my DVM in Santiago, Chile in 2001. Then I came to Virginia Tech for a Master in Dairy Sciences with a major in physiology of reproduction, which I finished in 2003. My master's research project was focused on the application of electronic estrus detection systems in dairy cows under heat stress. Currently, for my PhD I am working on the biology of the prion protein and the aspects related to its cellular gene expression in bovine embryos and tissues. We are also looking at the application of molecular technology for the ablation of this gene.
