Suzanne HirstMS Candidate, Biomedical Sciences |
| 2007 | Biological Sciences, Horticulture-Landscape Design Virginia Tech Blacksburg, VA |
I majored in both Biology and Horticulture in my undergraduate career because I have a broad fascination of and appreciation for the sciences. I have enjoyed working in Dr. Reilly’s laboratory for the past 2 years as both an undergraduate and a graduate student, and I am looking forward to publish my first paper within the month. I am a driver and EMT-Enhanced for the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, which has whetted my interest in medicine as a career. When I get a chance to remember that I have a life, I like to run, bike, kayak, travel, speak Spanish, listen to WUVT and NPR, and cook ethnic foods.
Cerium oxide nanoparticles and inflammation – I am looking at the ability of nanoceria to quench reactive oxygen species and other inflammatory mediators in macrophages and in lupus model mice.
