Dr. Klein’s research currently focuses on the role of pesticides as possible environmental triggers for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, and psychiatric disorders, such as depression. He is also interested in the role of other environmental contaminants, such as manganese, in the etiology of Parkinson’s disease. His group uses a combination of liquid chromatography and immunocytochemical techniques to evaluate the neurochemical changes induced by these environmental agents. Being relatively new to the area of neurotoxicology, Dr. Klein also maintains an interest in the anatomical, physiological and neurochemical plasticity of the mammalian somatosensory system, which he has studied for the majority of his career.
