Example: Tunica Albuginea
Author: Dr. Thomas Caceci
This section of monkey testis shows the very thick tunica
albuginea of the organ. This "white coat" (so named from its
appearance in fresh gross anatomical specimens) is a dense connective
tissue envelope. From it emerge septae that subdivide the internal
volume of the testis. The degree of internal septation is species
variable, and in most domestic animals there isn't much of it. Here
you can see a few small incursions of CT off the tunca albuginea.
The bulk of the volume of the testis is filled with the
seminiferous tubules. There may be several hundred to a
thousand or so per testis. Each one consists of a long loop whose
outlet is via channels in the tunica albuginea.
