Hi folks. Welcome to the world of Veterinary Neurobiology!! Please make sure you read the entire course syllabus that I handed out as soon as possible, since it is required reading. It is also posted on Scholar, under the Syllabus tab. It describes just about everything you need to know about the administration of the course, including exams and quizzes.
After reading the syllabus, please sign onto Scholar to get familiar with the Veterinary Neurobiology site (Neurobiology Spring 2012). As noted in the syllabus, announcements about the course will be posted on Scholar under the Announcements tab. You will be notified by e-mail when new announcements are posted and I will assume you have read the message (not necessarily immediately, but at a reasonable time after posting).
The first online quiz (see syllabus) will be posted late afternoon on Friday 2/17/12 and will be due the following Friday 2/24/12 by 10:00 AM (**even though we don't have class scheduled on that day**). It is open-book, but it is to be done on your own in accord with the Honor Code. In order to help you insure that you know how to correctly take and submit online quizzes, I will post a Mock Quiz today, under the Tests and Quizzes tab (you are under no obligation to take the quiz, and it will not count toward your grade). It will be available until 11:59 PM on 2/21/12. You will also see instructions on how to take a quiz in the syllabus. If you've taken the Mock Quiz correctly, you should see the quiz name and feedback listed under "Submitted Assessments" as soon as you're done. If not, let me know and I can try to help you out.
By each Friday, late afternoon, I will also have posted files of my annotated (with my handwriting on them) lecture slides from that week. You will be able to find them under the Resources tab of Scholar. These files may also contain some extra images and links that you may not find in your hard-copy class notes.
The first lab is next Wednesday 2/22/12. Please bring your dissection kits. It will be Overview Lab 1, pages 277-279 in the course notes, if you'd like to read it over ahead of time (highly suggested).
**Please click here for an additional required-reading handout for the first lecture. It is a publication by the Society for Neuroscience that defines the field of neuroscience.**
Finally, here's a belated Valentine's-related neuroscience tidbit (click on the heart)
