MS Students
After the student has successfully passed 9 semester credits, then the student is eligible to defend the thesis proposal.
PhD Students
After the student has successfully passed the preliminary examination (both written and oral examinations), then he/she is eligible to defend the dissertation proposal. Normally, the dissertation proposal defense exam is scheduled 1 to 2 months following the passing of the preliminary exam.
Thesis/Dissertation proposal forms must be submitted to the Research & Graduate Studies Office.
Independent study course (BMVS 5974) requests must be submitted to the Research & Graduate Studies Office a minimum of two weeks before the end of the preceding semester.
Check Sheets should be used as a guide during a student’s semester of completion. Requirements are subject to change; please consult the Research and Graduate Studies Office for the most up to date information.
The Animal Ethics Course - Laboratory Animal Management (BMVS 4054) course is a core requirement for Small Animal Clinical Sciences residents, but can be waived by Dr. Avery. If the student’s committee feels that the course should be waived (due to the background of the student) the student's advisor can fill out a form letter and send to Dr. Avery for approval.
