The Blacksburg campus of VA-MD Vet Med is located on the west side of the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, about 38 miles southwest of Roanoke.

Driving Directions

  • Take EXIT 118 (also called 118 ABC) to Blacksburg, Virginia Tech.
  • Stay on Service Road.
  • Take exit 118B (460 West / 460 bypass) and follow the signs to Virginia Tech and Bluefield, West Virginia.
  • Do NOT take Route 460 BUSINESS.
  • Continue approximately 9 miles and take the Southgate Drive exit for Virginia Tech.
  • At the first traffic circle, take the second exit to stay on Southgate Drive.
  • At the second traffic circle, take the third exit onto Duck Pond Drive.
  • Take the second left into the veterinary college entrance.
  • Take Route 460 EAST to Blacksburg.
  • Do NOT take 460 BUSINESS.
  • Continue on Route 460 for approximately 3-4 miles.
  • Go past the Prices Fork Road Exit.
  • Take the Southgate Drive exit for Virginia Tech.
  • At the first traffic circle, take the second exit to stay on Southgate Drive.
  • At the second traffic circle, take the third exit onto Duck Pond Drive.
  • Take the second left into the veterinary college entrance.

The Maryland campus of VA-MD Vet Med is housed in the Avrum Gudelsky Veterinary Center, located on the northeast side of the the University of Maryland's College Park campus.

  • Take 95 South toward Washington
  • Bear right at 495 (Capital Beltway) toward Silver Spring
  • Immediately bear left to follow signs for Route 1, College Park (you never actually get on 495)
  • Follow signs for Route 1 / College Park; you will travel on another spur of 95 temporarily
  • After exiting onto Route 1, go approximately 1 mile and bear right onto Route 193, University Boulevard
  • At the first light, Metzerott Road, make a right
  • Make immediate right onto Greenmead Drive
  • Follow Greenmead to the end; the Avrum Gudelsky Veterinary School is on the right
  • Enter the building via the right-hand door and announce yourself at the administrative desk
  • Take I-95 North to the Washington, D.C., Capital Beltway (I-495)
  • Continue North on I-95/I-495 toward Baltimore to Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South towards College Park)
  • Go approximately 1 mile and bear right onto Route 193, University Boulevard
  • At the first light, Metzerott Road, make a right
  • Make immediate right onto Greenmead Drive.

  • Take I-66 East or I-270 South to Washington, D.C.'s Capital Beltway (I-495).

  • Go to the first light, Metzerott Road, and make a right.

The Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center is located in Leesburg, Virginia, near Morven Park. A referral hospital that cares for horses on an outpatient basis by appointment, the Equine Medical Center offers critical care and emergency services 24/7.

Driving Directions

Via Dulles Greenway
This toll road is the easiest route to travel with a horse trailer.

  • Travel the Beltway (Route 495) or Route 66 to the Dulles Toll Road (Route 267).
  • Continue on to the Dulles Greenway (Route 267).
  • At the end of the Dulles Greenway, stay left and exit onto Route 7 West/Route 15 South (exit 1A).
  • Pass the exits for Route 15 North and South.
  • Take the following exit onto Route 7 Business. At the top of the ramp, turn right.
  • At the first light, turn left onto Fairview Street. Follow to the second stop sign.
  • The Equine Medical Center's driveway begins directly across the street.
  • Drive up to the line at the electronic gates, and they will open automatically.

Via Route 7
This road has many stoplights; Dulles Greenway is an easier route to travel with a horse trailer.

  • Travel the Beltway (Route 495) to the Dulles Toll Road (Route 267). 
  • Immediately after the toll booth, take the first exit onto Route 7 West. Stay on Route 7 for approximately 16 miles.
  • As you approach Leesburg, get in the far right lane.
  • Take the exit ramp for Route 7 West/Route 15 South (toward Warrenton/Winchester).
  • Go through the stoplight at Sycolin Road and pass the exit for the Dulles Greenway.
  • Pass the exits for Route 15 North and South.
  • Take the following exit onto Route 7 Business. At the top of the ramp, turn right.
  • At the first light, turn left onto Fairview Street. Follow to the second stop sign.
  • The Equine Medical Center's driveway begins directly across the street.
  • Drive up to the line at the electronic gates, and they will open automatically.
  • Travel Route 15 North to Leesburg. As you approach Leesburg, the road will widen.
  • Get in the left-hand lane as you approach the underpass beneath the Route 7 Bypass.
  • Take the left exit onto the Route 7 Bypass West (toward Winchester).
  • Take the first exit onto Route 7 Business. At the top of the ramp, turn right.
  • At the first light, turn left onto Fairview Street. Follow to the second stop sign.
  • The Equine Medical Center's driveway begins directly across the street.
  • Drive up to the line at the electronic gates, and they will open automatically.
  • Travel Interstate 95 North to the exit for Route 17 West near Fredericksburg, Virginia.
  • Follow Route 17 North toward Warrenton. The road will become Route 17/15/29 North.
  • After passing Warrenton, follow Route 15/29 North to where Route 15 North separates from Route 29.
  • Turn left onto Route 15 North, toward Leesburg. Drive approximately 25 miles.
  • As you approach Leesburg, the road will widen.
  • Be in the left-hand lane as you approach the underpass beneath the Route 7 Bypass.
  • Take the left exit onto Route 7 Bypass West (toward Winchester).
  • Take the first exit onto Route 7 Business for 1.5 miles. At the top of the ramp, turn right.
  • At the first light, turn left onto Fairview Street. Follow to the second stop sign.
  • The Equine Medical Center's driveway begins directly across the street.
  • Drive up to the line at the electronic gates, and they will open automatically.
  • Travel Route 340 West/Route 15 South towards Leesburg and Charles Town, WV.
  • Take the left exit onto 15 South.
  • As you approach Leesburg, bear left onto Route 15 Bypass.
  • Follow the Route 15 Bypass through four traffic lights past the shopping mall districts. The road will merge with Route 7 Bypass West.
  • Continue past the fourth light at Sycolin Road and pass the exits for Route 15 North and South.
  • Take the following exit onto Route 7 Business. At the top the of ramp, turn right.
  • At the first light, turn left onto Fairview Street. Follow to the second stop sign.
  • The Equine Medical Center's driveway begins directly across the street.
  • Drive up to the line at the electronic gates, and they will open automatically.
  • Travel Route 7 East from Winchester toward Berryville. Drive approximately 32 miles east on Route 7.
  • Pass the town of Hamilton and take the first exit for Leesburg, Route 7 Business.
  • At the first light, turn left onto Fairview Street. Follow to the second stop sign.
  • The Equine Medical Center's driveway begins directly across the street.
  • Drive up to the line at the electronic gates, and they will open automatically.

The Animal Cancer Care and Research Center, located at 4 Riverside Circle in Roanoke, Virginia, offers comprehensive, integrated services, including medical, surgical, and radiation oncology, for dogs and cats. The center is housed in the 139,000-gross-square-foot Virginia Tech Carilion Biomedical Research Addition, part of the Virginia Tech Carilion Health Sciences and Technology campus.
